Città Sane (WHO Europe)
The Healthy Cities Project is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations specialized agency for health, which is operating since 1948 with the objective of ensuring the highest level of health for the world’s population.
The WHO works directly with local governments, through its Center for Urban Health and a network of cities (Città Sane), to support countries in promoting the conception and awareness of public health, developing local policies for health and health programs, preventing and overcoming threats and health risks, anticipating future health challenges.
The Città Sane Project was created to help cities concretely pursue these objectives. The key words are: comprehensive health, individual well-being as well-being of the community and the role of cities as health promoters.
